I believe in freedom of speech. I believe in freedom of religion. I believe in the right to peaceably assemble and protest. I believe our national and world leadership, and in fact every person should take a stand against the oppression, exploitation and violation of people throughout the world. I believe that ALL human life is precious.
Yesterday I wrote a blog post about why I was staying home. Why I was choosing not to participate in the Women’s March. Today I shared that post on my personal Facebook page and it started quite a discussion. Most argued their points civilly and only a handful of hurtful comments were made. I am grateful to live in a time and a place where I can share my opinion and others can share theirs.
I believe women should be respected, paid equally and valued for their contributions big and small to our world. I believe we can all do a better job of treating one another with love and kindness. I believe our elected officials should be held to high standards.
I do not believe that I am better than anyone else. I do not believe that my sins are less than anyone else’s. I do not believe it is my place or my right to pass judgement on another person’s life or their choices. That right is Jesus’. Just as it is His to choose when life begins and when it ends. But I do have the right to say and to choose what I will not support. I will not stand, march or protest unless it is to protect, preserve and proclaim the sanctity of ALL human life.
