hello, friend

I'm glad you're here.

Anniversary Sessions… The New “Trash the Dress”?

In the last couple of months I’ve had the chance to photograph  anniversary sessions for a few of my 2011 couples.  One couple wanted a casual shot that re-created one of their favorite images from their wedding. Another wanted to do some of the things they couldn’t do at their wedding like including the bride’s horse. So it got me to thinking… are anniversary sessions the new “Trash the Dress”?

I’ve never been a fan of the term “Trash the Dress” personally. I wouldn’t want to “trash” my wedding dress and I don’t imagine that many of my “joyful” brides would want to either. But as my friend Morgan put it, “I want to re-live my dress.”  As a bride you spend hours and days searching for the right dress for you. The perfect dress to walk down the aisle in. And in the end, if you’re lucky you spend about 10 hours total in your dress… often far less. So wanting to “re-live” the dress and put it back on makes total sense. Now not every bride is going to want to put her dress back on for her one-year anniversary. But, that doesn’t mean that a one-year anniversary isn’t the perfect time to grab your hubby, meet up with your wedding photographer and celebrate your first year together as husband-and-wife. And if you can still wear your dress one year later… more power to you!

Here’s a sneak peek of Morgan and Andrew’s “Re-Live the Dress” session shot last week in Northern, California. You can see their summer 2011 wedding at Callahan’s Lodge in Ashland, Oregon here.
